Synchronized System AS/RS

Daifuku's Synchronized System AS/RS was developed to have high throughput. The two-crane system performs three times faster than dual fork mini load automated storage and retrieval systems, outputting 800 totes/cases per hour compared to 280 totes/cases during the same time period. With two cranes in one aisle, throughput can almost double if conditions such as scheduling are favorable.

Primary Problems Addressed:

  • Floor space
    • Facility is full, no additional storage space
    • Plans for a new facility
    • Congestion; product stored in aisle and hallways
    • Productivity
    • Bottlenecks in material flow and production
    • Limited capacity in storage and production areas
  • Orders are becoming smaller and more frequent
    • Pick cycle times are too long
    • Inventory
    • Frequent lost stock
    • No real-time material control
    • Poor product accessibility
    • Lack of FIFO control

Actual crane traveling speed is 400m/min. (1,312 ft/min.) while vertical speed can reach 100m/min. (328 ft/min.). Transfer of load between crane and rack in 1.5 seconds. With the Synchronized System, two cranes work together on a single rack. Each crane can store and retrieve its own load, but the real excitement and benefit occurs when the two cranes work together to quickly and efficiently move a larger load.

Similar to other products in Daifuku's AS/RS line, the Synchronized System will be commercialized according to market demands and required customer specifications.

Features

  • Quiet operation
  • Variable acceleration rates
  • Quick and efficient movement of varied sized loads within one aisle

Specifications

The availability of overhead space in the facility determines rack height. Aisle length and the number of aisles are based on available floor space. Load size and required throughput affects the speed and is considered to determine system configuration. The specs below apply to applications under ideal conditions:

  • Maximum horizontal speed: 800 totes or cases per hour
  • Maximum vertical speed: 100m/min. (328 ft./min.)
  • Maximum traveling speed: 400m /min.(1,312 ft./min.)
  • Maximum load transfer speed: 1.5 seconds
